Amazing Restoration of Mid-Century Modern Nightstand with Rubbing Alcohol & Lacquer Thinner #ASMR
I found this somewhat neglected, but well used Mid-Century Modern nightstand at Restore for only $7. I could see that the veneer was broken on the front (and painted over) and there were several smaller areas where the veneer had broken off. Structurally, it appeared to be in fairly good condition but I was NOT looking forward to removing that awful blue paint!
I had never removed a finish using Isopropyl Alcohol before (aka rubbing alcohol) so I thought I would give it a try with this piece. After I removed the paint with the rubbing alcohol, I found that the original finish remained so I decided to use another product I had not used before- lacquer thinner. I tested an area on the nights...

Beautiful Restoration of Antique 1890s Piano Stool #ASMR
Просмотров 25 тыс.Год назад
When I saw this well worn piano stool in a thrift store it spoke to me. "Help me, I am buried under all this paint! My leg fell off and my arms are broken. I know you can do it Cynthia! Save me." Well, I am a sucker for challenges to I paid $30 and took it to my shop. It ended up being a pretty big challenge to repair two broken spindles and to removed all that white paint! This stool was made ...
AMAZING RESTORATION OF AN UGLY ANTIQUE SIDE TABLE using French Polish Finish | Furniture Restoration
Просмотров 77 тыс.2 года назад
This little table was pretty severely damaged. The back piece was broken into many pieces and the drawer was missing it's bottom! There was simply no finish left on this antique mahogany side table or night stand. Underneath all this damage I saw hope that I could restore it to it's original splendor! Since it was made of mahogany, I thought it would also be a good project to use a French Polis...
AMAZING RESTORATION of ANTIQUE JACOBEAN BUFFET- Relaxing Furniture Restoration only shop sounds

The previous owner admitted to doing a very poor job in his attempt to paint this 100 year old Jacobean buffet. He said he never even finished it because he was not pleased with is work. Since he was moving out of state, he decided that now was the time to give up on this project and hand it over to someon...
AMAZING RESTORATION of Vintage Cedar Chest- Relaxing Furniture Restoration Video
Просмотров 93 тыс.2 года назад
I purchased this cedar chest from Facebook Marketplace. The seller said it had been stored at her parents farm for over 20 years. It was a mess! And it smelled pretty bad! The finish on the top was pretty much destroyed. The chest sat in water at one point and the particle board between the veneer on the base became swollen and started to flake off. This chest presented quite a few problems tha...
UN-PAINTING A VINTAGE CHEST - AMAZING FURNITURE RESTORATION -no words- Surprising wood grain!

This dresser was drenched in multiple layers of very, very thick paint! I think they used exterior latex house paint on it! I was absolutely SHOCKED to see what was under all that paint! I used traditional paint remover AND a heat gun to remove the paint in this complete furniture restoration. Watch the video to see which method I found to work the best. I got this used and abused dresser at an...

A client dropped this off at my workshop and said "it's yours if you want it or I am taking it to the landfill." Apparently it was her Great Aunt's and now that she had passed. they were clearing out her house and property. AMAZING RESTORATION of Burl Wood Chest | Relaxing Furniture Restoration Video -no spoken words

This chest was almost useless due to broken drawer slides and the finish was badly damaged. Gratefully, the wood was in good condition. While I was working on it, a client stopped by to look at the credenza I had finished 2 weeks ago ( my most recent video). She loved the credenza and pu...
GORGEOUS FURNITURE RESTORATION- Shabby Chic to WOW! Relaxing Furniture Restoration-only shop sounds

The owner I purchased this from said she was "into shabby chic and I wanted this to match my guest room." I could tell that it was made of wood and was a higher end cabinet from examining the unpainted interior. However, I did not know for certain what was under all that white, blue and green paint! Watch the video to see what a little elbow grease and a lot of furniture stripper did to transfo...
AMAZING RESTORATION of RARE VINTAGE 1930s WATERFALL DRESSER. Relaxing Furniture Restoration Video

This vintage waterfall dresser had been spray painted with primer and used in a garage to store tools for many years. It was calling out to me to restore it. EXTREME RESTORATION of INLAID WOOD TABLE. Who knew what was under that paint? #ASMR

This pastel end table has seen a lot of use and was found by a dumpster. I was grateful my friend thought of me and dropped it off at my workshop! This little table presented a few challenges...A stain was under that paint and the edges were painted- not ...

Great video! I use an empty paint can, if i have one, to put the stripped goo into. Then i put the lid on and take it to the toxic waste disposal provided for free by my county. Two or three dressers fits in one old paint can, and i have no trouble getting empty paint cans from people.

Nice to see the details of the grain and carving. I like using Howard's feed n wax for inside the drawers and carcass to get the colour and scent. A snall tip: put a furnace filter in front of the box fan when you are spraying or making a lot of dust.

Thanks for your video! I’m working on flipping a side table and it’s made out of particle board/ MDF (don’t really know how to tell difference) and it was some water damage at the bottom and some wood fussy. Everyone one keeps recommending shellac based primer for MDF water damage rather than water based. I already have bulls eyes 123 primer and was hoping to use what I already have. This is the older video I came across that has used water based primer. Does using water based primer leads to swelling in the MDF?

I tried using beyond paint and agree with these results here. It is just another gimmick product created to appeal to lazy people like me. After using it on a test cabinet and seeing that it chipped easily and was not as smooth as I like. I went ahead and used it as if it were a standard paint. I cleaned with simple green, rinsed off, dried, sanded with 220 on detail sander, primed with bonding primer sanded, then beyond paint, then sealed. I sanded between all the coats. I found that careful brushing was better than a roller with even a 1/4 inch nap. Oh, I also used Floetrol. I brushed it on lightly and immediately applied Beyond paint. Thin coats are best. As many as needed. So I was able to use my $125 gallon of Beyond paint without throwing it away but I won't buy it again. Just do the work. There are no shortcuts to a quality finish.

Instead of bleach, use Oxalic Acid. It will lighten the stains without affecting the wood much. You must cover the entire area so you don't get light marks. It's quite gentle so you might need more than one application. Also, it only needs to be washed away and neutralised with water. (I think it's made by boiling certain plants. Very natural but still toxic enough to require gloves.)
